Dramatic Turnaround
Argentina achieved an incredible comeback, erasing a 2-0 deficit to secure a 3-2 victory over Egypt in the round of 16 on Tuesday at Atlanta Stadium.
The resurgence began when center back Cristian Romero scored in the 79th minute, heading in a pass from Lionel Messi to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Messi then equalized at 2-2 in the 83rd minute, scoring his record-extending 21st career World Cup goal after the ball found him amidst a cluster of players near the net.
The decisive blow came in the second minute of stoppage time when Enzo Fernández headed in the winner, assisted by Lisandro Martínez, as Argentina scored three goals in a span of 14 minutes to complete the stunning turnaround.
With this victory, Argentina advances to the quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of the Colombia vs. Switzerland match.
