Introduction to Lamine Yamal's World Cup Debut
The 19-year-old Spanish winger has officially arrived at the FIFA World Cup, scoring a goal in the 10th minute of Spain's 4-0 Group H win over Saudi Arabia on Sunday, marking his first career World Cup goal and start in the tournament.
Yamal previously came off the bench in Spain's shock June 15 draw against Cape Verde due to a hamstring injury, but his limited playing time against Saudi Arabia was all Spain needed to secure the victory.
Zlatan Ibrahimović noted, 'The difference from the first game and today was, I would say, Yamal because he brings something that I think nobody else has, they creativity,' highlighting the impact of Yamal's unique abilities on the team's performance.
What Sets Lamine Yamal Apart
According to World Cup winner Thierry Henry, 'The creativity' is what makes Yamal special, as 'He’s the sort of guy that thinks the game. He does things differently. He will attract different people, find different ways with his dribbling, passing and the aura that he has. He knows when to go and when not to go and stop the rhythm of the game sometimes, assisting goals.'
Yamal's impressive career with Barcelona in LaLiga has been marked by numerous achievements, including finishing first in the league in three of the last four seasons, with 16 goals, 11 assists, and three penalty kicks in the 2025-26 season alone.
Having joined La Masia, Barcelona's youth academy, in 2014, Yamal made his debut for the club in April 2023 at just 15 years old, paving the way for his current success with both Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
As Spain prepares to face Uruguay on June 26 in their final group stage match, Yamal's continued presence on the field is expected to be a crucial factor in the team's performance, with his unique creativity and abilities making him a valuable asset for the team.
