Mexico's Knockout Stage Quest Begins
Co-host Mexico will begin its knockout stage journey at the FIFA World Cup with a round of 32 match against Ecuador, after finishing the group stage with three wins to top Group A.
Mexico's group stage campaign included a 2-0 win over South Africa in the tournament's curtain raiser, a 1-0 victory over South Korea in Guadalajara, and a 3-0 triumph over Czechia in Mexico City.
Round of 32 Opponent: Ecuador
Mexico will play Ecuador in the round of 32 on June 30 in Mexico City (9 p.m. ET, FOX, FOX One), in a matchup that will be the second World Cup encounter between the two teams, following Mexico's 2-1 win in the 2002 World Cup group stage.
Potential Round of 16 Opponents
If Mexico defeats Ecuador, it could face either England or DR Congo in the round of 16, with the two teams set to meet in their round of 32 matchup on Wednesday at 12 p.m. ET on FOX and FOX One.
Quarterfinals and Beyond
Should Mexico advance past the round of 16, it could face a number of potential opponents in the quarterfinals, including Brazil, Japan, Ivory Coast, and Norway, before potentially meeting one of eight possible opponents in the semifinals, including Argentina.
Home Advantage and the Road to the Final
Mexico will play at least one more match in its home nation, with the opportunity for a second, having secured home advantage for the round of 32 and potential round of 16 matches by winning Group A.
